ADVANTAGES OF AGE

Old age has some advantages
(or so I have been told.)
They help to dull the trauma
that occurs when growing old.

I don my purple dress and
slip into supportive shoes,
And kind friends always help me find
the articles I lose.

When sermons are so boring that
my eyelids start to fold,
I know I'll be forgiven
just because I'm growing old.

I hug a handsome man who has
a problem or a hurt.
His wife is never jealous,
nor suspects that I'm a flirt.

When asked a simple question,
and my answer seems obtuse,
I never need to worry,
for old age is my excuse.

I learn a lot of information
as I linger near,
For people blab some juicy secrets,
thinking I can't hear.

There's lots of kind assistance
as I hobble on my way,
And age is my excuse for all
the stupid things I say.

Yes, age has its advantages,
and though it's sometimes rough,
It slowly comes to all of us
if we live long enough.

Yet still it's not for sissies,
and it takes strength to endure.
But I will thrive while I'm alive,
for death's the only cure!
